Reiki means 'Universal Life Force' and originated in Japan. It is a natural hands-on therapy which is channelled through the practitioner's hands to the recipient. During a Reiki treatment the client lies on a treatment table, fully clothed except for footwear. The practitioner rests their hands in a series of non-intrusive hand positions and energy flows through the practitioner’s hands to the recipient.
Reiki helps to promote deep relaxation and natural healing. The client may feel very relaxed and may even drift off to sleep. They may feel heat from the practitioner’s hands, or tingling. Sometimes people may see coloured lights or feel they are floating, or very heavy. It is possible that they may feel a bit emotional at times, or find that their mind is racing, or that their mind is empty. Some aches and pains may come to the surface during the treatment. This is all perfectly normal.
Reiki is a holistic system which works on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. It can be used alongside other forms of treatment, both conventional and complementary.
